Bears secondary health improving, but O-Line loses Braxton Jones

Bears secondary health improving, but O-Line loses Braxton Jones

It’s possible the Bears will be down a key member of their secondary this week, as their latest injury report improved slightly on Friday ahead of their game Sunday in Arizona.

Slot cornerback Kyler Gordon completed a limited practice on Friday for the first time since his hamstring injury in London against the Jaguars. He missed last week’s game. He is officially listed as questionable for the game.

The Bears won’t have their full secondary again as safety Jaquan Brisker remains out with a concussion. He is one of three Bears out for the game, including starting left tackle Braxton Jones with a knee injury.

Without Jones, the Bears would normally turn to Kiran Amegadjie. But Amegadjie is the other Bears player out this week due to a calf injury suffered in the game against Washington.

So it’s possible that Larry Borom is on the left. Borom is on the injured reserve list but is listed as doubtful after a week of full training. He has missed the entire season so far due to an ankle injury. The other Bears option at left tackle would be right guard Matt Pryor, but offensive coordinator Shane Waldron said Thursday he prefers situations that involve moving one player out of position rather than two.

Guard Ryan Bates could also be reinstated from injured reserve but is questionable for the game after limited practices all week.

Starting left guard Teven Jenkins returned to practice on a limited basis on Friday after missing Thursday with a knee injury and is questionable.

“Teven Jenkins was good today,” coach Matt Eberflus told reporters at Halas Hall. “He has participated in most of the training. He looks good. We are hopeful there.”

The other questionable player starts in defense of Montez Sweat, who has a shin injury. He did not practice on Friday after attending limited practice on Wednesday. The hope with Sweat is that after another 48 hours he will be healthy enough to go full speed, so it will be an in-game decision.
