1 dead, 2 injured in ‘chain reaction’ crash on Hwy 401 near Kingston

Provincial police say one person was killed after a five-car collision on Highway 401 near Kingston, Ont., on Wednesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the “chain reaction” crash in the area of ​​Joyceville Road around 7:40 p.m. after a tractor-trailer collided with another vehicle that “slowed or stopped in a construction zone,” according to an OPP news release. .

Investigators said three more vehicles collided after the initial crash, including a car that was rear-ended, causing back injuries to two occupants.

Part of the highway was closed for about 15 hours and reopened at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Police have not yet released information about charges, but say they are expected.
