JOHANNESBURG – The Office of the National Prosecuting Authority will review the decision to drop corruption charges against Zizi Kodwa and his co-accused.

This follows the decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions in South Gauteng to withdraw all charges against the suspects.

Former minister and businessman Jehan Mackay was charged with corruption and violating the Prevention and Combatting of Corruption Act.

This after they allegedly participated in paying bribes amounting to more than R1.7 million.

Charges against them were dropped following protests from both Kodwa and Mackay, but in a statement released on Friday afternoon, the NPA said it had received a letter from the Hawks requesting a review from the office.

The charges against Kodwa are said to stem from an investigation into a 2015 State Information Technology Agency tender.

Meanwhile, the ANC has welcomed the decision to drop corruption charges against Kodwa.

The ANC has praised Kodwa for stepping aside in June to allow justice to proceed.

In a statement, the party also reiterates its support for fair and transparent judicial processes.
