Manor ISD is hosting a vigil for a student killed on campus by a classmate

Family, friends and classmates remembered a Manor Senior High School student who was stabbed to death by another student on campus this week.

Country house ISD held a candlelight vigil for 18-year-old Darrin Loving.

“It’s a tragedy. There’s no other word for it, it’s a tragedy,” said Manor ISD grandparent Sam Samaripa.

A tearful and emotional moment was shared by hundreds as they placed candles in front of a memorial honoring 18-year-old Darrin Loving.

“That was the very first time I had to do that, and it was very moving, it was almost like I knew that young man,” said Manor ISD grandparent Rosemary Samaripa.

“The community needs to come together after something like this, the community needs to come together,” Sam said.

Mansion police say that was Darrin Loving stabbed to death by 18-year-old Mac Brown Mbanwei during a fight. Mbanwei is currently in the Travis County Jail charged with first-degree murder.

“I can just imagine what these parents are going through, and I think it’s twofold. The other gentleman I feel sorry for is a young man, and it’s just a tragedy,” Sam says.

During the vigil, a photo of Loving was shared and prayers were held in the center of the stadium, with some kneeling to show their respect.

“The young men who gave up their football game to honor this young man, their classmate, was overwhelming to me,” Rosemary said.

During the vigil, district officials asked parents to work with their children and also volunteer on campus to bring the community together.

“To see all these people coming from every source of life and hear the school board president speak, we have to come together,” Rosemary said.

The district has made resources available for students and employees to absorb the loss.
