Signs alert the public to the city’s new security cameras in Chinatown

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Have you seen these new signs around Chinatown?

About 40 signs warn motorists and pedestrians about new security cameras that have been or are being installed in the Chinatown neighborhood.

The new high-tech, high-resolution cameras have a 360-degree view, can track movements and are equipped with LED lighting and sirens.

The city said HPD may make announcements over a loudspeaker system and the digital recording will be retained for 30 days.

More than half of the city’s 60 new security cameras have already been installed, with the rest expected to be installed before the end of the calendar year.

The city said they are a major improvement over the old analog system installed more than 25 years ago.
