Remains of pilots in a Navy plane crash will return to WA next week

ISLAND COUNTY, Wash.The remains of the two naval pilots who died in an EA-18G Growler crash near Mount Rainier will return to Washington next week.

So were Lt. Commander Lyndsay Evans and Lt. Serena Wileman, both 31 lost in a fighter jet crash on October 15.

The remains of the pilots return from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.

Lieutenant Wileman will arrive home in Oak Harbor on Monday, November 4, around 7:00 PM

The Wallin-Stucky Funeral Home will provide details of the procession for those who wish to gather along the route. FOX 13 Seattle has reached out for more information.

Lt. Cdr. Evans will return to Anacortes at a later date next week. Her family requested the arrival as a private affair.

“The families of both LT Wileman and LCDR Evans would like to express their gratitude for the gracious support of the local and surrounding communities over the past few weeks,” said a news release from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.

Evans and Wileman were identified on October 21 after search and rescue efforts transitioned into a recovery operation. They crashed in a remote, steep and heavily forested area east of Mount Rainier during a routine training flight.

The two piloted an EA-18G Growler, an electronic warfare aircraft of the ‘Zappers’ of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 130.
