Huntsville City Schools will be installing turf on all baseball and softball fields

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAF) – Huntsville High School and Lee High School are the first two schools in the Huntsville City Schools district to begin installing artificial turf fields for baseball and softball.

This is a $12 million project that started earlier this year.

Next year, three other schools will switch to artificial turf fields. School leaders say this will not only make the field easier to maintain, but it will also help players prepare for state championships that are usually played on artificial turf fields.

“The coaches are really excited about it,” said Craig Williams, director of communications for Huntsville City Schools. “Not just to help the students get ready for the playoffs because that’s what they’re going to be playing at that level. But also the student-athletes are very excited because the grass looks really nice and it makes our athletic facilities really exciting and a welcoming place for them, so excited.”

Both fields at Lee High and Huntsville High will be ready for use at the start of the season.
