Newcomer to Penticton starts GoFundMe after losing everything in RV accident – Penticton News

Morgan Sugg had only been in Penticton for a few days when the brakes on her truck and trailer failed, sending her careening down a mountain road home and overturning, completely destroyed.

The crash, which occurred on October 22, not only completely destroyed her home and many of her belongings, but also shattered a femur near her hip.

Sugg said she was staying in the Carmi area with another person and their two dogs.

“We came back down the next morning because we heard there was a better place to park your RV, just down the road. So we came down and the brakes failed as we were going down the hill, and basically it kept getting faster and faster,” she added.

She tried downshifting, putting the camper in park and pulling the emergency brake, but nothing worked.

“Nothing could stop us, and we just ended up rolling. If we had gone any further, I think we would have fallen off a rocky cliff.”

Luckily, a nurse who lived nearby heard the crash and came running outside.

“She was laying there with me because I ended up flying out the window,” Sugg added. “I think I was standing in front of the wreck, and then my dog landed at the top of the hill and then the person I was with and his dog weren’t thrown out of the vehicle. So they were doing well. .”

Sugg was taken to hospital, where staff performed emergency surgery and she received 33 staples in her leg.

“It could have been a lot worse, several people died on that corner. So it was definitely scary.”

While they spent five days in the hospital recovering, Sugg’s dogs were taken in and cared for by the Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT), which helps care for and rescue pets in emergency situations.

“When I got out of the hospital, they helped with dog food and stuff because we lost everything that rolled over.”

Her dog was also taken to the vet, with a few minor scrapes on her hind legs, but luckily only some bruises.

By the time the couple returned to the accident scene, Sugg said she was only able to find two pairs of pants and a shirt. Everything else was destroyed.

“I got enough money together to just go to the hotel room for a few days, until we can reach out to different resources and things like that, to see who can help us, or help us and try to find a place for a longer term, because I can’t really walk around with my leg.

The couple just moved to the area from Edmonton and unfortunately don’t have much family in the area.

Sugg said she was with the GoFundMe, which can be found online hereto assist with medical costs for rehabilitation, temporary housing and living expenses, replacement of essential belongings and transportation, as she tries to get back on her feet.

She said any support is greatly appreciated and if anyone has physical items to donate, they can contact her at 587-974-6666.
