HC maintained further investigation in Jubilee Hills accident case

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court upheld the trial court’s decision and ordered the Hyderabad Police to further investigate the Jubilee Hills accident case in February 2022.

Former Bodhan MLA Shakeel Aamir’s son Raheel Aamir is reportedly involved in the incident that claimed the life of a two-month-old boy Ranveer, whose mother Kajol was hit by the speeding vehicle.

When police received clues about Raheel’s involvement, they urged the court early this year to allow them to investigate further. The court had given permission on March 19.

Disputing the same, Raheel approached the Supreme Court arguing that once charge sheet is filed in a case, further investigation cannot be allowed. His counsel argued that the trial court’s order amounted to violation of the principle of law under Section 173(8) of the CrPC and that the trial court had erred in directing the prosecution to conduct further investigation.

Mahesh Raje, the government’s advocate, argued that the 2022 survey was not conducted properly and that there were several lapses in the process. Therefore, the Jubilee Hills ACS had instructed an inspector to initiate the investigation.

Justice K. Sujana, after hearing the allegations, opined that Section 173(8) of the CrPC provided that filing a complaint would not deter the police from conducting further investigation. The court was therefore of the opinion that there were no illegalities or defects in the impugned order dated March 19, 2024, allowing the prosecutor to continue further investigation.
