Sunrise Highway is closed westbound at Exit 48 due to a crash, police say

The westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway are closed at Exit 48 in Bohemia while Suffolk County police investigate a crash, a department spokesperson said.

Suffolk police did not provide details about the crash or an estimate of when the lanes would reopen, but they said the crash appears serious.

The New York State Department of Transportation’s 511 website showed the highway closed from Exit 48 for Smithtown and Locust Avenue to Exit 46, Carleton Avenue in Islip.

According to police, the accident was reported around 3:37 p.m
