Bengaluru resident describes disturbing car attack by mob

A resident of Bengaluru narrated a disturbing encounter when his car was allegedly attacked by a group of men on a busy street in the Kudlu area of the city. Deven Mehta took to X (formerly Twitter) to share videos and images of the incident, which showed the attackers shouting insults and threatening the passengers in his vehicle.

According to Mehta, the attackers smashed the car windows, threw stones and intimidated him and his passengers, including a woman. Shockingly, a traffic police officer was present at the scene but did not intervene during the attack.

In response to Mehta’s alarming post, Bengaluru Police sought additional details and urged him to provide his contact details through a direct message. However, Mehta declined citing security concerns. He stated: “I shared it here so that more people remain vigilant and careful on the streets until we have better police and security services.” His video has since attracted a lot of attention, with 42,000 views and hundreds of likes and shares.

Public outrage and distrust in the police

Following Mehta’s story, many users on One user criticized the police, saying: “The police have no credibility these days; most of them live from hafta collections and leak people’s information to the perpetrators. Why would anyone feel safe sharing details with him?” Another user urged the community not to let Bengaluru devolve into a lawless environment, stressing that such incidents are becoming commonplace.

Citizens also raised concerns about the ability of the police to effectively control crime in Bengaluru. One commenter wondered: “It seems to be happening all over Bengaluru. Don’t you have enough machines to catch these crooks?’ This sentiment reflects an escalating sense of insecurity among residents.

Similar incidents cause alarm

In a related incident, a family was attacked by a group of miscreants in the Kasavanahalli area of Bengaluru a few days earlier. According to the victim, the attackers threw stones at their car after it failed to stop as per their demands, injuring a child in the vehicle. The child was then rushed to hospital for treatment.

The victim, Anoop, shared a video of the attack on social media and said, “Rowdies attacked my car near Amrutha College, Kasavanahalli. They threw a stone at my car and my child is in the hospital.”

These incidents have intensified debates over public safety in Bengaluru, questioning the effectiveness of law enforcement and the urgent need for improved security measures.
