Arrest after mother and daughter shot dead by intruder

A Pennsylvania man was arrested after police said they were looking for the gunman who fatally shot a mother and daughter during a home invasion in New Jersey.

Catherine Nunez, 33, and her mother, Marisol Nunez, 54, were found dead early Wednesday in an upstairs bedroom of their Willingboro home, the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Junior Edwards, 37, of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, along with additional charges related to the alleged home invasion and possession of a weapon, prosecutors said in a statement released on Saturday.

Authorities said prior to the arrest that they believed the crime was not random and that they did not believe other residents in the area were in danger.

It appears the intruder broke a first-floor window to enter the home, prosecutors said.

“The investigation revealed that entry was gained through a first-floor window that was forced open by Edwards,” prosecutors said in announcing Edwards’ arrest. “A gun believed to have been used in the murders was discovered outside the home.”

Edwards and Catherine Nunez shared an 8-year-old son, prosecutors said, adding, “The child was in the home during the shootings but was not injured.”

Edwards was arrested Friday in Philadelphia, prosecutors said.
