Father charged after 3-year-old shot himself with unsecured gun in Detroit

Richard Williams, the father of a three-year-old boy who allegedly shot himself on Oct. 30, has been charged and charged in connection with the shooting.

On Oct. 30, around 12:45 p.m., the child allegedly found Williams’ unsecured gun in the 4000 block of Grand St. and fired it, hitting himself in the stomach.

It is also alleged that the boy was in the care of his father at the time of the incident. He was privately transported to a local hospital where he was treated.

“Another day. Another child injured by a loaded, unsecured gun. Tomorrow it will be another if we don’t pay attention to everything and take this issue seriously, said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy. “These are our children – and if we can’t unite for them, who will we unite for?”

Richard Williams, 29, is charged with unsafe storage causing injury and was arraigned Nov. 1 in the 36th District Court. He was given a $50,000 cash or surety bond.

His bond rescheduling hearing is scheduled for Nov. 4.
