QB1 Derek Carr returns, but seven Saints are inactive on Sunday in Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC (WVUE) – For the first time since Oct. 7, Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr will lead an offense Sunday (Nov. 3) that hopes to put the brakes on a six-game losing streak.

Carr will be active for the Saints’ afternoon game against the Carolina Panthers (1-7) in Charlotte, but his team remains limited by injuries, especially at running back and in the defensive secondary.

Listed as inactive for Sunday’s game are cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore, Kool-Aid McKinstry and Rico Payton, running back Jamaal Williams, linebacker Jaylan Ford and defensive tackle John Ridgeway. Spencer Rattler is also listed as inactive as the team’s third quarterback.

Previously ruled out for Sunday’s game were running backs Williams (groin) and Kendre Miller (hamstring), cornerbacks Lattimore (hamstring) and McKinstry (hamstring), and wide receiver Bub Means (ankle).

Miller and Means were placed on injured reserve on Saturday, meaning they will miss at least four games. Cornerback Paulson Adebo (knee) is already out for the rest of the season.

Starting running back Alvin Kamara is available but was limited in practice all week due to hand and rib injuries.

The Saints (2-6) filled some holes by returning cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles, safety Millard Bradford and Jordan Mims to the active roster. Safety Roderic Teamer and cornerback Tre Herndon have also been removed from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.

Carr was on the field for the first three losses of the Saints’ six-game skid, leaving the Oct. 7 game in Kansas City with injured oblique muscles.

Rookie quarterback Rattler started three games in place of Carr, but the Saints lost all three and were outscored 110-45 in the games. Rattler passed for just one touchdown and was intercepted twice, posting a 35.4 quarterback rating replacing Carr.
