Man dead, 1 injured after deer crash on I-65 in Warren County

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Kentucky State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a deer in Warren County early Sunday morning.

The crash occurred around 1:57 a.m. as KSP Post 3 responded to a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 65 around the 25-mile marker.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox driven by 26-year-old Alex Bailey of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was traveling northbound when a deer entered the roadway. Bailey responded by slamming on the brakes before ultimately colliding with the deer.

The Equinox was then rear-ended by a Ford camper owned by 54-year-old Bruce Hutchins of Radcliff, Kentucky.

The Equinox left the right side of the road before finally coming to a stop on an earth bank. The camper stopped against the inside wall on the left emergency lane.

KSP pronounced Bailey dead at the scene at the Warren County Coroner’s office. Hutchins was transported to a local medical center with unknown injuries.

KSP was assisted at the scene by the Bowling Green Fire Department, MED-COM EMS and the Warren County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is currently ongoing and is being led by Trooper Grant Robertson.
