New York Jets coach reveals conversation with Malachi Corley after questionable play

The Jets from New York finally won a football match on Thursday evening, beating the Houston Texans 21-13. While it may have been one of the uglier games played in the NFL all season, that doesn’t matter to the Jets.

This team just needed to get back on track in a big way, and kudos to them for getting the job done.

That doesn’t change the fact that their campaign is likely over, as New York is still 3-6. Unless they do this over the next eight games, making the playoffs doesn’t seem very likely.

There were some good and bad moments during their win over the Texans. The bad ones included Malachi Corley doing something that no footballer ever dreams of.

Corley was running into the end zone for an easy touchdown when he dropped the ball before crossing the goal line, causing a fumble. Houston recovered the football and the Jets had taken six points off the board.

There was a good chance that Corley did that, which would have been the reason New York lost the football game. If that happened, fans would have been rightly outraged.

Despite achieving victory, the rookie must understand that he will not be able to do so in the future. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich talked to him about the situation.

‘Absolutely frustrated to be honest – and angry at the same time’ Ulbrich said reporters. “But what a great opportunity for this child to grow and learn. I promise you that in 10 years, if he’s still in this league, that will never happen again.”

Ulbrich is right.

While that is a frustrating piece and one that everyone wishes they could get back, it is a learning experience. Sometimes players have to go through something before they change their ways, so hopefully that was the case for the wide receiver.

Realistically, the Jets scored 28 points in that game. It’s almost unfair to say that, as things happen during matches. However, that was a walk-in touchdown, so let’s say they scored 28 points.

Even Aaron Rodgers it counts as a touchdown.

“Tonight I count 28. We scored 21 and we had another… erm miss on the goal line, but I’m proud of the way we responded in the second half.”

28 points is a big improvement over what their offense has shown all year, which is a promising sign.

It will take a lot, but hopefully this football team doesn’t give up.

Thursday was a step in the right direction.
