Khalistanis attack Hindu devotees outside temples, Trudeau thanks Peel Police for action – top 10 things to know

A protest by Khalistanis on Sunday turned violent near the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, Canada, when devotees were reportedly attacked. Following the clashes between Khalistanis and the devotees, police deployment was intensified at the Hindu Sabha temple.

The non-profit Hindu Canadian Foundation (HCF) shared a video of the attack and wrote on X: “Hindu Sabha Temple under attack by Khalistani terrorists. Children, women and men are being attacked. This is all happening under the support of Khalistani. sympathizers of politicians.”

  1. A group of devotees from the Hindu Sabha Mandir were targeted by Khalistani supporters on Sunday.
  2. According to the videos shared widely on X, a group of men with sticks were seen attacking the devotees outside the temple. According to media reports, a group of Khalistani supporters held a rally to commemorate the 1984 anti-Sikh riots before the attack on devotees.
  3. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday condemned the attack on Hindu devotees and thanked Peel Regional Police for “responding quickly to protect the community and investigate this incident.”
  4. Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah urged restraint, saying those who engage in such violent activities will be pursued, arrested and charged.
  5. A similar incident took place at Laksminarayan Mandir in Canada on Monday. Dr. Rao, a member of the Hindu Forum Canada, said he was present on the temple grounds when the incident occurred.
  6. “The police are completely biased and beat up three of our boys when the three were not causing violence. It was the Khalistanis who attacked them first. Sad state of affairs in Canada. It was sad to see innocent people being beaten up and brutally picked up by the police before my eyes,” claimed Dr. Rao.
  7. Canadian commentator Daniel Bordman wrote on X that the Royal Canadian Mount Police (RCMP) allegedly attacked Hindus at a temple in Diwali Surrey BC.
  8. The officers started attacking the devotees to protect the Khalistanis who came to harass the temple goers on Diwali, Bordman said.
  9. The series of incidents comes amid strained ties between New Delhi and Ottawa as Canada has repeatedly rejected India’s requests for strict action against Khalistani extremists in Canada.
  10. In October this year, India withdrew its High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Verma, after he was named as a ‘person of interest’ in the investigation into the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India also expelled six Canadian diplomats on October 14, including acting High Commissioner Stewart Ross Wheeler.
