IPID is investigating the death of a Grade 12 student in the Eastern Cape

According to one report, the deceased teen was a 12th grade student.

Eastern Cape police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa said the shooting happened early Sunday morning.

She said the circumstances surrounding the incident will be part of the investigation.

Mawisa said the matter was referred to IPID, which investigates incidents involving police members.

No further details were provided.

The incident comes after two unknown suspects allegedly robbed and raped five high school students.

The matriculants were robbed at gunpoint last Thursday in the Mqhekezweni administrative area.

The incident took place while students were preparing for Wednesday’s final exams.
