CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – Multiple law enforcement agencies in the Lowcountry are searching for a driver who fled Monday morning after a traffic stop and subsequent car crash.

Sullivan’s Island police said a man crashed his vehicle on the 2800 block of Brownell Avenue and left the scene.

Police said a heavy police presence would remain on the island as they continued to search for the driver.

Officers have the identity of the driver and do not believe he is armed or poses a threat to the community.

Residents are urged to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.

The driver is described as 6 feet tall and has dark brown or black hair. He was last seen wearing a blue sweatsuit.

Police believe he fled east toward the Isle of Palms.
