Gunmen attack police facility in Abia, kill prisoner, details emerge

Abijah stands – Gunmen killed a female inmate during an attack on the Police Rapid Response Squad facility in Owerrinta, located along the Umuahia-Aba Federal Expressway in Abia State.

It was determined that the murdered detainee had been arrested in connection with a child trafficking case.

The State Commissioner of PoliceDanladi Isa said the gunmen arrived in about three Hilux vehicles and opened fire at the RRS facility around midnight on Monday, November 4.

According to The Punch, Isa said one suspect was arrested while the attackers attempted to release prisoners.

“Our personnel repelled the attack. However, the attackers used dynamite to blow off our roof. In their attempt to free prisoners, they opened fire, resulting in the tragic death of a female suspect.”

“After the incident, we pursued the suspects with technical means and successfully arrested one person. Police are currently interrogating him to identify other accomplices. We are making progress.”

Legit.ng remembers that Gunmen attacked a police checkpoint and killed two officers in June 2024.

The daring gunmen also injured another police officer during the attack at Opobo intersection along Ikot Ekpene Road, Ogbor Hill.

The tragic incident occurred barely a month after some soldiers of the 144th Battalion were killed in Aba.

In the meantime, Legit.ng reported that in May 2024, no fewer than three Nigerian soldiers were killed by masked gunmen in the commercial town of Aba in Abia State.

The armed men attacking the soldiers SUVs unknowingly burned their patrol car and the outpost at Obikabia junction.

It was noted that military aircraft began hovering around Aba city center after the attack on Thursday, May 30.
