Colorado election polls track the Trump-Harris race, Prop 127 and more

There isn’t much polling done in Colorado, and most of it is on the presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

But last weekend, the University of Colorado’s American Politics Research Lab released its poll, the Colorado Political Climate Surveyshowing preferences on eight Colorado ballot issues, the presidential race and more.

“The survey consists of interviews with a representative sample of 800 Coloradans statewide,” the report said. It took place online between October 18 and October 30.

Read on to see what that poll, administered by YouGov, revealed. The following questions are weighted for likely voters, and the margin of error is 5.19%.

Amendment H: Establishment of a Judicial Misconduct Board

“Amendment H proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to create an independent board to preside over hearings on ethical misconduct involving judges, and it would allow greater public access to judicial disciplinary proceedings and records to make. If the election were held today, how would you vote on it? change?”

To pass, 55% of the votes are needed.

  • Yes: 67%
  • No: 15%
  • Not sure: 21%

Amendment J: Withdraws language defining marriage as between a man and a woman

“Amendment J proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to repeal language that defines a valid marriage as consisting solely of a union between a man and a woman. If the election were held today, how would you feel about this amendment to vote?”

To pass, 55% of the votes are needed.

  • Yes: 51%
  • No: 39%
  • Not sure: 10%

Amendment K: Move some election deadlines earlier

This question was asked in two different ways. Here’s the version of the question where more respondents answered yes or no, rather than “don’t know.”

“Amendment K proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to set deadlines one week earlier for citizens to submit signatures for initiative and referendum petitions, and for judges to file notices of intent to seek another term. It would also require the content of ballot measures to be published How would you vote on this amendment if the election were held today?

To pass, 55% of the votes are needed.

  • Yes: 45% regardless of how the question was asked
  • No: 25% and 21% depending on how the question was asked
  • Not sure: 30% and 34% depending on how the question was asked

Amendment 79: Include the right to abortion in the state constitution

“Amendment 79 proposes to amend the Colorado Constitution to make abortion a constitutional right in Colorado, and to repeal the existing constitutional ban on state and local government funding for abortion services. If the election were to take place today, how would will you vote on this amendment?”

To pass, 55% of the votes are needed.

  • Yes: 56%
  • No: 34%
  • Not sure: 11%

JJ proposal: Use tax revenue from sports betting to finance water projects

This question was asked in two different ways. This is the version of the question where more respondents answered yes or no, rather than “not sure.”

“Proposal JJ would fund state water projects. The funding would come from the state keeping sports betting tax revenue above the amount previously approved by voters, rather than returning it to casinos and gambling companies. If the election were held today, how would you vote on this proposal?”

  • Yes: 55% or 67% depending on how the question was asked
  • No: 24% or 21% depending on how the question was asked
  • Not sure: 21% or 13% depending on how the question was asked

KK Proposal: Tax firearms to fund mental health and safety programs

This question was asked in four different ways. Here’s the version of the question where most respondents answered yes or no, rather than “not sure.”

“Proposition KK would allow the state to fund supportive services for crime victims, mental health services for veterans and youth, and school safety programs. The funding would come from a new state tax on firearms sellers, equal to 6.5% of their firearm sales, firearms. parts and ammunition – the state would be allowed to keep these revenues and spend them on these programs if the election were held today, how would you vote on this proposal?

  • Yes: Varies from 54% to 60%

Proposition 127: Ban hunting of lynx, bobcats and mountain lions

“Proposition 127 would ban the hunting of bobcats, bobcats and mountain lions, except in cases involving loss of life, property or livestock. If the election were held today, how would you vote on this proposal?”

Proposition 131: Creating an all-candidate primary, using ranked choice in a general election

“Proposition 131 would create new election processes for certain state and federal offices. After conditions in state law are met, it would establish an all-candidate primary for these offices; the top four candidates – regardless of party – would advance to the general election. In the general election, voters would then be allowed to rank the candidates in order of preference, and the votes would be counted over multiple rounds to determine who wins the election, how would you vote on this proposal? ?”

Polling aggregator fivethirtyeight.com also analyzed polls for the presidential election and for Colorado’s 8th Congressional District race between Democrat Yadira Caraeveo and Republican Gabe Evans.

In the presidential race, as of Monday, November 4, Harris is up 9.9 points in Colorado, with 52.3% support, and Trump is up 42.4%.

In the 8th District race, an Emerson College poll conducted Oct. 24-26 shows Caraveo up 2 points at 48% and Evans at 46%.
