SHELBY — Shelby Superintendent Michael Browning said the death of a Shelby High School student will have a tremendous effect on the school community.

Fourteen-year-old Graham Scott died on Saturday night after a crash into an all-terrain vehicle. This is evident from a press release from Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent.

“Shelby City Schools is saddened by the loss of one of our students, Graham Scott,” Browning wrote in a news release sent Monday afternoon.

“We will have school counselors and outside counseling services available to students and staff as we navigate this difficult time.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Graham’s family,” the chief wrote.

Incident took place on Saturday

The incident occurred just after 7 p.m. Saturday when the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to 5550 State Route 96, in Liberty Township, in reference to a report of an ATV accident.

According to Kent’s press release, it was a side-by-side crash that had rolled over and ejected two of the occupants. Two passengers of the ATV suffered minor injuries.

Scott was driving the vehicle and was treated at the scene for serious injuries by Liberty Township Fire Department, Life First EMS and Med-Flight medics.

Scott was transported by Life First EMS to Bucyrus Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, the release said.
