Shoots suspect dead, women and baby injured after state trooper shoots back in pursuit

HARDEMAN CO., Tenn. (WMC) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has been called to Hardeman County after a shooting suspect was killed while eluding a state trooper Monday afternoon.

According to the TBI, two women and an infant were also injured in the subsequent crash.

Hardeman County officers initially responded to a shooting along Highway 18 near the Madison County line around 1:20 p.m.

The alleged shooter sped away from the scene until a Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) trooper intercepted the getaway car around 1:30 p.m.

According to the TBI, the suspect refused to stop and shot at the trooper, who fired back.

The driver was struck by the gunfire and crashed just south of Highway 100.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The surviving three passengers were sent to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. Their circumstances are unknown at this time.

No law enforcement officers were injured.
