Vance promises ‘golden age’ in his closing message to Michigan voters

FLINT, MI — Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) assumed the former president Donald Trump‘s campaign promise to ‘Make America Great Again’ during his final election rally on Monday Michigan.

“I truly believe, my friends, that we are on the cusp of a Golden Age of American prosperity,” Vance told the crowd of supporters in Flint, who held up “Trump will fix it” signs as he greeted Vice President Kamala Harris blamed a migrant crisis at the southern border and the rising cost of living.

“We are on the cusp of an America where we are not only energy independent, but energy dominant,” Vance added. “We are ready to make the American dream of homeownership affordable for millions of young Americans across the state of Michigan and across America.”

Vance’s appeal was tailor-made for Flint, an auto manufacturing powerhouse that has suffered a job exodus. He and Trump have pledged to restore manufacturing through tariffs and lower energy costs, including investments in the auto industry.

“I know that the story of Flint is, unfortunately, the story of far too many communities across the state of Michigan, and it is the story of my community in Middletown, Ohio,” Vance said, referring to his upbringing in the Rust Belt. . “That’s because for too long a generation of American leaders has failed to do their job for communities like Flint, Michigan.”

Harris has also emphasized a manufacturing revival and promoted the tens of thousands of jobs created under the Biden administration. However, she faces concerns in Michigan as Democrats push for the industry’s transition to electric vehicles.

Vance’s event in Flint comes as Trump prepares for a rally late Monday night in Grand Rapids, where the former president plans to conclude his third straight presidential campaign.

Vance, however, insisted he would return to the state as vice president-elect.

“This is a wonderful place to end the campaign in Michigan,” Vance said at the start of his speech. “I’m sorry to say that this is the last time I will be in Michigan as a vice presidential candidate. But if we do our work tomorrow, I will return as Vice President of the United States of America.”
