Cambridge abuser jailed for vicious attack on partner

At his sentencing last week, Recorder James Willan KC told Giltinane there was no excuse for the attack on his partner, whose arm he broke as she tried to defend herself as he punched and kicked her as she lay on the ground.

He said that in addition to her broken arm, there were bruises on the woman’s forehead, eye sockets, shoulders and the back of her hand and that she also had broken teeth.

There had been at least eight points of contact where she had been hit, he said.

He said Giltinane had previously been jailed for domestic violence offences, and concluded he posed a “significant risk of harm to prospective female intimate partners” as he was “willing to use significant force”.

Det Con Frankie Enticknap said: “Giltinane brutally attacked his partner and then encouraged her to lie about how she had been injured.

‘I’d like to thank the NHS 111 call taker who realized something wasn’t quite right – it’s suspicions like these that can make all the difference.

“Giltinane’s behavior left his partner incredibly scared, and no one should ever have to feel that way. Domestic violence is never acceptable and there is no excuse.”
