Heavy rains expected in Kerala; IMD issues yellow alert for 6 districts

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a warning of widespread rainfall in Kerala in the coming days. The weather bureau also predicts heavy rainfall (yellow warning) in isolated areas in select districts.

  • November 8, 2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki
  • November 9, 2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki

According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation is currently over the central southern Arabian Sea, while another system is over the Gulf of Mannar near the coast of Sri Lanka. In addition, a separate circulation over the southeastern Bay of Bengal has shifted towards the central southern Bay of Bengal. These weather patterns influence the forecast for heavy rainfall in Kerala.
