Man allegedly punched election judge in the face after jumping to the front of the voting line, police say

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (Gray News) – An Illinois man was arrested after allegedly assaulting an election judge while waiting in the voting line.

Around 11 a.m. Sunday, police called the Orland Park Township Office for reports of a man causing a disruption on the voting line.

Police said 24-year-old Daniel Schmidt entered the building and skipped past numerous other voters waiting in line to enter the voting area. said a press release.

An election judge at the entrance told Schmidt to go to the back of the line and wait his turn, which Schmidt reportedly refused.

At that point, another election judge was called in to assist and Schmidt was again ordered to the back of the line.

Police said Schmidt tried to push past the judge but was stopped. He then started shouting profanities and punched the judge, knocking off their glasses.

At that point, several other customers jumped in and restrained Schmidt until officers arrived.

While he was being arrested, Schmidt also allegedly resisted.

He was charged with two counts of serious battery on a victim over 60 years of age.
