‘The World Between Us II’ Unveils First Teaser at Taiwan Content Fest

There was only room when the follow-up to 2019 Taiwanese series “The World Between Us” debuted its teaser at Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), with “Meteor Garden” star Vic Chou leading an ensemble cast.

The series, which will be released in 2025, comes after five years of script development. The story begins with an arson case and explores themes of choice, healing and gaps in social support systems, drawing inspiration from court cases.

The two-minute preview introduced a sprawling story that spanned two decades and followed six families affected by various incidents, including a police stabbing, a train derailment and a parliamentary confrontation.

Director Lin Chun Yang, who returns alongside Golden Bell Award-winning producer Jayde Lin and writer Lu Shih Yuan, likened the production scale to “producing three dramas at the same time.”

Chou plays Ma Yi-sen, a character who deals with the loss of his wife and child in an accident. “Ma Yi-sen plays a heavy, emotional role with moments of intense sadness, breakdowns and uncontrolled anger,” Chou said at the event.

The cast includes Hsueh Shih-ling as the controversial lawmaker Kao Cheng-kuang, who described his character as “idealistic and caught between self-realization and traditional politics” and “a sandwich sandwich” caught between ambitions and reality.

Hsueh noted that his scenes with veteran actor Yang Kuei-mei, who plays his mother, were “an exciting experience.” Liu Tzu-chuan plays Hu Guan-jun, a young man with ADHD whose actions become central to the plot, while 15-year-old Ryan Pai takes on the role of Luo Yu, whose family faces turmoil after a violent incident.

The series is a co-production between Taiwan Creative Content Agency, Public Television Service Foundation, Asiaplay Taiwan Digital Entertainment and KOKO Entertainment, with DaMou Entertainment producing. Screenworks Asia, Catchplay’s production arm, is handling international sales.
