Man killed in crash on US 421 in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (WGHP) – A man was killed following a crash on US 421 Tuesday evening, according to Winston-Salem police.

Tuesday around 8:36 p.m., officers responded to the area of ​​US 421 and Reidsville Road after receiving a report of an accident.

At the scene, police found a 2002 Ford vehicle in the median, as well as Selvin Lamar Wright, 28, of Winston-Salem, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the 2002 Ford was traveling north on US 421 when the vehicle lost control, went over the guardrail and came to rest in the median between northbound and southbound US 421.

Police said Wright was thrown from the car by the impact of the crash. He then landed in the southbound lanes of US 421, where he was subsequently struck by oncoming traffic.

The WSPD Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the fatal crash.

Investigators say it is unknown what caused the 2002 Ford to lose control at this time and Wright’s next of kin have been notified.
