Lula lula for 2 days while missing school: Chillspot Records producer DJ Ribhe arrested for raping 14-year-old girl

Prominent Zimbabwean music producer DJ Ribhe of Mbare-based Chillspot Records today appeared before the Harare Regional Magistrate, Mrs. Marehwanazvo Gofa, on rape charges.

The 24-year-old producer, whose real name is Tafadzwa Mandaza, was not required to plead and was remanded in custody to allow a bail application.

The prosecutor, led by Mr. Anesu Chirenje, outlined the details of the case. The alleged victim, a 14-year-old student at Eduvest Secondary School in Glen Norah A, where DJ Ribhe also lives, is at the center of the allegations. The events leading to the alleged rape unfolded over several days, beginning with the victim’s unexplained absence from school..

The State alleges that the young girl returned home from school on October 16, 2024, around 4 p.m. However, her father had noticed her absence from classes for two days in a row. This absence and subsequent events form the basis of the allegations against DJ Ribhe.

The next day, around 10 p.m., the alleged victim visited DJ Ribhe’s home with others. From there, the group headed to Mashwede Village, a popular nightlife spot in Harare. It was at this point that the alleged incident began to unfold. The prosecution alleges that DJ Ribhe forced the young woman to consume an unidentified substance and smoke shisha.

The alleged incident took a darker turn after the group left Mashwede Village. According to the state, the group returned to DJ Ribhe’s home around 3 a.m. It is claimed that the young girl woke up and discovered DJ Ribhe had sexual intercourse with her without her consent. This alleged act of non-consensual sex is at the heart of the rape charge against the producer.

The details presented by the prosecutor paint a worrying picture of alleged coercion and abuse of power. The alleged victim’s absence from college, the alleged forced consumption of an unknown substance and the alleged incident at DJ Ribhe’s home all contribute to the seriousness of the allegations.

The case against DJ Ribhe is still in its early stages and the bail application is yet to be heard. The court will need to carefully consider the evidence of both the prosecution and defense before making a decision on bail.
