A man is injured in an overnight shooting in Evansville; investigation underway

EVANSVILLE – Police arrested a suspect Tuesday evening after a shooting that seriously injured one man on Evansville’s East Side.

Officers who arrived on the scene in the 4400 block of Washington Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday reported locating a man who had suffered “multiple gunshot wounds,” according to Sgt. Trudy Day, of the Evansville Police Department.

The victim, who officials have not named, was taken to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately known Wednesday morning.

“Officers were quickly able to determine that the victim and suspect knew each other,” Day wrote in a news release. “This was not a random act of violence. We were able to apprehend (the suspect) early (Wednesday) morning. The suspect is currently being interviewed by detectives.”

Day added that investigators planned to execute additional search warrants Wednesday morning.

“If you have any information regarding this crime, please contact the Evansville Police Department Adult Investigations Unit at 812-436-7979 or (by calling) the EPD Tip Line at 812-435-6194,” Day wrote.
