Council investigates dangerous drainage problems at Lough Gitane

Engineers from Kerry County Council are investigating dangerous drainage problems on a road near Lough Gitane.

It follows a motion by Killarney councilor John O’Donoghue, who says there is an urgent need for a drainage system to be installed on a section of L-3015 before the Finow Bridge, at the entrance to the Lough Gitane Water Treatment Plant.

The Kerry Independent Alliance councilor recently tabled a motion Kerry County Council to install a drainage system to prevent the serious flooding that occurs there every year.

Cllr O’Donoghue says it is extremely dangerous and poses a high risk of injury and aquaplaning as drivers drive around a blind bend straight into the water.

He said he is personally aware of two cars that have broken down there in the past year due to flooding.

Cllr O’Donoghue has welcomed the council’s efforts to find funding for the works.
