Mesa police identify people killed after plane crashes, car hits near Falcon Field

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) – Authorities have identified four of the five people killed after a plane crashed and struck a car at a Mesa airport late Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened nearby around 4:45 p.m Greenfield and McKellips roadsjust southwest of Falcon Field Airport.

A Honda HA-420 plane crashed at the airport and appears to have slipped through fencing before hitting a vehicle outside the airport grounds.

There were five people on board the plane, four of whom died on the spot.

They were identified as:

  • Spencer Lindahl, 43 years old
  • Rustin Randall, 48 years old
  • Drew Kimball, 44 years old
  • Graham Kimball, 12 years old

Sources confirmed to Arizona’s family that Randall was the pilot. The group reportedly flew to Provo, Utah.

Mesa police say one person on the plane survived and was hospitalized with burns.

The driver of the vehicle was also killed in the fiery crash but has not been identified as notifications are ongoing for next of kin.

Greenfield Road remains closed in both directions from McKellips to McDowell as of Wednesday morning. Police are asking motorists to use caution in the area as investigators are on scene.

It is unclear what led to the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation into the crash.
