Former Maine funeral home owner charged with theft for theft was due in court in January

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – A former funeral home owner in the Katahdin area won’t be back in court until next year.

A Penobscot County Grand Jury sued Harold Lamson, 53, last week.

He is accused of 14 thefts.

Lamson owned Lamson Funeral Home in Lincoln, East Millinocket, Millinocket and Danforth.

Complaints against him include problems with mortuary funds, shortcomings in funeral services and an inability to communicate with families.

Lamson was due to appear in court in Bangor this morning, but his case has been adjourned until January 8.

A lawyer with the Public Prosecution Service says they expect to file about 50 cases against Lamson and that they need time to process them all.

In May, Lamson was arrested and charged with two counts of theft.

In September, he was arrested by East Millinocket police for violating his bail conditions and assault.

The Board of Funeral Services suspended Lamson’s license in June after he violated the terms of his consent agreement.

His license has been revoked for five years.

He can reapply for a permit in three years, but will need board approval to be reinstated.
