No, Biden has not announced the 2028 US presidential opening hours after the 2024 election

No, Biden has not announced the 2028 US presidential opening hours after the 2024 election

Claim:

US President Joe Biden announced a 2028 re-election campaign the day after former President Donald Trump’s expected 2024 re-election victory.

Judgement:

False

Hours after the expected re-election of former US President Donald Trump victory about Vice President Kamala Harris, a rumor circulated on X in the form of a trending headline under the platform’s “beta” tab titled “explore.” That headline – generated by the Grok artificial intelligence (AI) platform – read: “Biden Announces 2028 Presidential Run.” The headline appeared alongside other pieces of alleged election news.

If selected, the trend was displayed a page (archived) with multiple messages under the same heading. For example, the most popular on November 6, 2024 after shown at the top of the trend list, read (archived), “Breaking: Biden has announced he will run again in 2028.” At the time of writing, the post had been viewed approximately 150,000 times.

One user responds to the message asked (archived), “Wait, is this real?!?” So did another person wondered (archived), “Is this real?” As a third example of people unsure of the message: a user asked (archived), “Is this a parody?”

However, despite the attention-grabbing headline and popular message, this rumor was both false and a joke. Furthermore, a small disclaimer appears under the trend headline: “Biden Announces 2028 Presidential Run.” That disclaimer said of the AI tool: “Grok can make mistakes and verify their results.”

We reached out to the White House for comment on the false rumor but have not yet received a response.

We rather reported another time, the Grok AI tool created a slightly misleading headline about Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and his son, Gus. We have also provided live updates during election day.
