Meta gets a lot of criticism for the amount of misinformation on Facebook, but it can also have a positive impact. Ford The dealership discovered it when it asked Facebook users to help track down a truck purchased with a counterfeit check.

Best Ford of Nashua, NH, turned to Facebook when it realized a local man had used a fake check to pay for a 2020 car Ford F-250. The dealer had photos of the thief, knew his name and even tagged him on the Facebook post asking other residents for help locating the truck.

“We are reaching out to our local community in Nashua and surrounding areas for assistance in locating one of our vehicles,” the release said.

“A gentleman named Ryan Duval recently made a counterfeit check and left Best Ford in a white 2020 Ford F-250 Lariat Crew Cab valued at approximately $50,000. We contacted him on Facebook and he won’t give it back.”

The trader then offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who knew the F-250’s location so they could send a repo truck to pick it up. But Best Ford warned Facebook’s amateur sleuths not to approach Duval, 36, telling them he had a history of arrests for forged checks and other crimes, and leaving a Google link to stories about his previous bad deeds.

In short order, information from rookie PIs had helped police locate the truck and Duval, but not before Duval reportedly left his own comments (now deleted) on the thread. The F-250 was recovered and Duval was arrested on charges of theft and forgery. But these are not the only charges he faces. Nashua police discovered the Lariat swiper also had outstanding warrants for theft from an area Lowe’s store. Leader of the Union reports.

Dear Ford was so happy to get his truck back that he doubled the reward and donated $1,000 to the Nashua Police Athletic League and an equal amount to Robert Edward, one of the Facebook users who helped restore the pickup.
