Two injured in Omaha after domestic violence incident led to shootout with police

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A woman is in the hospital after police say she may have been held hostage by a man in Omaha.

Omaha police told 6 News the incident started as a domestic violence call near South 43rd and Frances Street on Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. Officers believe the woman was being held against her will in a small room.

The man allegedly shot and the police fired back. OPD said officers were able to safely get the woman out of the home and take her to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is also in the hospital with injuries that authorities say could be critical.

At this time, investigators are unsure if the suspect’s injuries were self-inflicted or if he was struck by gunfire from an officer. OPD did not suggest any officers were injured.
