CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO/Gray News) – A family is mourning the loss of a son and brother after he was found dead in an Ohio river.

Cleveland police said the victim was 33-year-old Vincent J. Zimmer.

Vincent was reported missing over a week ago by his mother, Cathy Zimmer.

Cleveland Division of Fire crews found Zimmer in the Cuyahoga River near the Carter Road Lift Bridge Thursday morning, just after 10 a.m. A city worker spotted the body while walking along the Carter Road Bridge.

“The Cleveland Division of Police responded along with Cleveland Fire and EMS. We were able to retrieve the body with the assistance of Cleveland Fire and EMS,” said Sergeant Freddy Diaz.

Vincent lived in Avon Lake and police say no one has seen or heard from him since Oct. 21.

Vincent’s mother says in the police report that Vincent recently received a $60,000 inheritance from his late father. On Sunday, October 20, Vincent withdrew $5,000 from his bank account.

The last person Vincent’s mother says he was with was his girlfriend, who lives in Cleveland.

Police say they did a welfare check at her home but did not find Vincent.

According to the police report, a tip on social media suggested Vincent and his girlfriend may be staying with the girlfriend’s mother.

However, when the police went to check that house, no one answered the door.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting the investigation.

“We learned it was a missing person from Avon and at this time we are on standby until the ME office determines a cause and once the cause is determined we can move forward with whoever is investigating,” says Sergeant Diaz.
