Michigan man gets up to 40 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing minors

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. – A Michigan man has been sentenced to 17 to 40 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing a minor over several years, officials said.

John Hendrickson, 59, of Bellaire, had pleaded no contest in August to four counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

In January, he was also charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct in Allegan County and another county in Calhoun County, but they were dismissed due to the plea agreement.

After his prison sentence, Hendrickson will be subject to lifetime electronic monitoring and sex offender registration.

“Sexual assault is a heinous crime that leaves lasting scars,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said as the defendant entered the plea. “I am grateful that we were able to achieve justice for the victim in this case without prolonging their suffering through a trial. The victim’s courage to come forward after years of abuse is truly inspiring. “I want to reassure all victims of sexual violence that my department is committed to supporting survivors and ensuring perpetrators are held accountable, no matter how many years have passed.”
