The Georgia State Patrol recently released more information about a car chase that seriously injured a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office investigator, revealing it was another RCSO patrol car that struck him at a high rate of speed.

While responding to a carjacking on Caldwell Drive on Oct. 24, Inv. Christopher Brown, 35, got into a chase with Omarion Rayshaun Steward of Hephzibah, according to police. previous reporting.

During the chase, a 25-year-old RCSO officer, Nicholas Trevon Boyd, struck Brown’s car on Gordon Highway, according to a GSP crash report.

Brown was driving behind Boyd in an unmarked vehicle and as Boyd attempted to make a U-turn, he “overshot the turn” and struck the driver’s side of Brown’s car, according to the report.

According to GSP, Boyd’s car turned counterclockwise and struck a raised concrete median. Brown’s car veered and hit a concrete curb.

Both Boyd and Brown were injured and taken to Augusta University Hospital, according to the report.

GSP determined that Boyd was to blame for the crash.

A GoFundMe set up for Brown notes that Boyd’s car was traveling more than 100 miles per hour when it struck Brown’s car, The Chronicle reported. Brown suffered critical injuries to his pelvis, arms, jaw, leg and several other parts of his body.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond Wednesday to The Chronicle’s requests for more information.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has not yet spoken publicly about the incident.
