Internet shocked by toddler’s unconventional request instead of birthday cake

Internet shocked by toddler’s unconventional request instead of birthday cake

A mother has sparked heated debate online with her unique approach to her daughter’s birthday cake.

Dani (@dani_fitmom_), 32, shared a video of her 2-year-old Olive blowing out candles atop a tomahawk steak to celebrate her special day. The clip quickly went viral, racking up more than 138,013 likes and more than 3.4 million views.

“I have three children aged three and under, but we have never done that made a cake ever for someone’s birthday!” Dani said Newsweek.

“It has been a tradition since the beginning to celebrate with a nutritious meal that my children enjoy. They have never had cake before, so they don’t even know the difference. I have offered them sweets with clean ingredients before and they still prefer steak.”

The clip shows little Olive happily blowing out her candles before eagerly digging into the big, juicy piece of meat.

The health-conscious family has embraced this tradition and maintains a nutrition-oriented lifestyle even on birthdays.

“Steak has been her favorite food since she started solids,” the mother of three added. “She loved her birthday meal. She was drenching the steak with the homemade bone broth gravy my husband had made.”

Dani (@dani_fitmom) also said that a high-quality grass-fed tomahawk steak is less expensive than a custom-made birthday cake, which can be loaded with artificial ingredients.

“Why would I pay a hundred dollars for a cake with Red Dye 40 in it?” she asked.

Red Dye 40, a commonly used food coloring in the US, is controversial due to links to behavioral problems in children and possible health risks. Research is being done, but some parents prefer to avoid this in favor of more natural options.

Opinions were divided in the comments section, with some applauding Dani’s choice and others being skeptical.

“She eats better than 99% of the US,” one viewer posted, while another offered a more cautious perspective: “I’m okay with having traditions like this. But just don’t tell her she can’t do that. a cake when she turns four or five and goes to birthday parties and sees other children eating cake.”

Meanwhile, others defended the mother’s choice, with one person commenting: “Why are people mad? How do they know this kid wanted a pie? What if she wanted the giant steak, LOL (laugh out loud).”

One commenter even shared a similar tradition: “I love this!! My kids were allergic to crap so we always ate watermelon or fruit with candles straight from the farm.”

Originating in ancient Greece, birthday cakes were originally made as an offering to the moon goddess Artemis. They were decorated with candles that resembled the glow of the moon, a tradition that has evolved into today’s widespread practice of lighting candles and making wishes on cakes.

Dani said she is fascinated by the polarized responses.

“The reaction on social media was about 50/50. Half the people praise me, and half the people say I’m a terrible mother,” she added.

“The comments are actually super entertaining to read; there’s a big difference. About two years ago I started posting my babies’ birthday steaks, and since then I’ve seen a lot of other families posting similar videos. So I guess it’s has been an inspiration to many families and started new traditions for many.”
