Sedgwick County deputies are investigating after a man was found dead in a wooded area near Derby

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found dead in a pickup truck Wednesday afternoon at the Arkansas River Canoe Launch in the 3500 block of East 71st Street South, near Derby.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the area just before 4 p.m. Wednesday and “were directed to a heavily wooded area where they located the pickup and body.”

The sheriff’s office identified the man found dead in the truck as 54-year-old Shane D. Watts, of the Wichita area.

“Preliminary observations indicate that there are no signs of trauma to his body, and the cause of death is still under investigation. The investigation will continue pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests,” the sheriff’s office said.
