Maui County will reopen Lahainaluna Road, marking an important milestone in the recovery process

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui County announced Friday that Lahainaluna Road will officially reopen to unrestricted public access on Friday, marking a major milestone in the recovery process.

Officials said crews successfully completed all debris removal activities in the area around Lahainaluna Road and the Pioneer Mill chimney.

Officials added that the chimney was deemed structurally safe after rigorous engineering testing.

In early October, crews used an abundance of caution to establish a 150-foot drop zone while structural assessments took place. As a result, barricades were set up and a security checkpoint was moved.

These barricades and security checkpoints will be removed Friday morning.

County officials are reminding all motorists and pedestrians to use caution.
