Woman was seen applying toxic foam to her hair while bathing in the Yamuna river

Yamuna is currently filled with toxic foam. But that did not stop the devotees from taking a dip in the river on the occasion of Chhath Puja. A viral video on the internet shows a woman washing her hair with foam floating around, shocking internet users.

Every year around this time, foam appears on the surface of the river, but devotees ignore the warnings and continue with the festivities in the river, bathing and taking dips in the polluted water.

The woman in the video is seen taking a bath in the river and even using the foam on her hair as shampoo. There are several more women standing with hair in the knee-deep water, as the foam floats around them.

People were shocked to see the women standing in the water and bathing. One user wrote: “Is this really happening?”

Another wryly commented: “All that foam isn’t shampoo!”

Toxic foam can lead to several health risks. One user stated that the woman should see a skin doctor within a few days.

Others said that ignorance leads them to end up in the river with all that toxic foam around them.

“Education plays a crucial role here. It is heartbreaking to see people using this water, unaware of the health problems they may face,” said one of the users.

The scum found in the Yamuna River is formed due to high levels of untreated sewage and industrial pollutants, according to experts.

Chhath festival is the most popular festival in Bihar and in some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. As part of this, female devotees take a dip in the water once in the evening and again the next morning. People living near the Yamuna choose to go there to complete the rituals, while others use makeshift water wells.
