MAFS UK 2024’s Most Misunderstood Bride

MAFS UK 2024’s Most Misunderstood Bride

It was so uncomfortable to watch

We need to talk about Hanna. She is one of the cast members from this year’s very polarizing season MAFS UK who has been on the show the least amount of time, but the impact and the shitstorm Hannah has created has been immeasurable. Hannah only has to walk into a room and you’ll see the majority of female cast hair. It’s a wild watch, and it’s hard to see a rolling campaign of pure schoolgirl nastiness aimed at someone who – let’s face it – doesn’t really deserve it.

Last night’s episode of MAFS UK 2024 really proved it to me: Hannah is the most misunderstood cast member of all the brides and grooms this season. And it broke my heart to see someone feeling like they had to endure the chaos of what being on this show must bring into the lives of this cast pretty much alone.

Last night we saw Hannah rejoin the group for girls’ day, along with other cast members who had previously left the show’s wedding ceremonies. The show did everything it could to make her arrival intense and to rile up the other girls. Despite the fact that time had passed and everyone Hannah was associated with had gotten upset about it in the context of the show, she came into the room at Holly and barked “look what the cat dragged in”. I mean, where do you go from there? From that moment on, Hannah was the recipient of what felt like a dog pile. She was harassed by the girls for ‘going after their husbands’. Hannah went on a date with Orson – who Richelle had no interest in. It was also revealed that she had struck up a friendship with Ryan – who was married to Sionainn.

Hannah couldn’t have been clearer: she and Ryan became friends after MAFS UK because they both needed someone to discuss their experiences with and both felt left out of the group chats that other brides and grooms had. This wasn’t enough for the group – and apart from Amy and Emma speaking out for Hannah and saying she didn’t deserve to be outed, it felt like there was no way Hannah could win in this scenario. I felt immeasurably sorry for her.

Hannah is no angel. The mistake she made on her honeymoon with Stephen was despicable, when she used what he told her in confidence as ammunition. I think she was shocking and wrong a few times, but the way she could never redeem herself in the eyes of the group when they had been merciful to other cast members who had made similar mistakes just came across as extremely playful and nasty.

Hannah has since spoken out. She revealed in her story: “Me and Ryan built a really beautiful friendship when we both came out of the experiment and that’s all it’s ever been! We have never been in a relationship and we have never been in a relationship. If anyone had bothered to ask us, we would both have happily acknowledged it, but no! Instead, the playground whispers, rumors, and a public ambush based on rumors were STILL again!

“All the other cast were building friendships (boys and girls) and were chatting, meeting each other, enjoying a little WhatsApp group that we stayed out of and as always it was more than okay for everyone else to get friendly – but of course not for me!” It’s actually terrible to hear.

And while we witness leaders of the anti-Hannah brigade on MAFS UK, like Holly, doubling down on her behavior in that episode, I think it’s worth saying that watching the montage we as viewers saw – this was not a cast member who deserved such isolation. As Hannah said, she had only known them for a week; she owed them nothing. And she’s well within her rights to befriend male cast members without being treated like she just tore up a marriage.
