Standoff leads to arrest in drug/weapons case

AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A man has been arrested after a standoff that ended part of a drug and weapons investigation.

Ardrius K. Dews is accused of:

• Violent felon in possession x2

• Possession with Intent to Distribute Meth, Third or Subsequent

• Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, Third or Subsequent

• Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I/II Controlled Substance, 3rd or Subsequent

• Possession with Intent to Distribute Meth over 100 grams

• Being in possession of a firearm and being in possession of narcotics according to list I/II

• Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule III Controlled Substance (Xanax).

• Attempted Terrorism – Fentanyl

On November 4, 2024, the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office received information about an active investigation, according to investigators. They obtained a search warrant for an apartment on Timberlake Road in Lynchburg, where they found approximately four pounds of methamphetamine, two ounces of Fentanyl, an unknown amount of cocaine, a large number of Xanax pills, four handguns and one assault rifle. to the sheriff’s office.

Three days later, the sheriff’s office received information indicating Dews was at a home in Evington. Using a search warrant, they went to the house, where he refused to cooperate, leading to a standoff that ended that night when he was captured.

No mugshot was made available.

Other agencies involved in the operation include the Lynchburg Police Department, Virginia State Police, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, Lynchburg Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the Central Virginia Drug/Gang Task Force.
