‘Fraud and theft on a large scale’

A California homeowner saved his community from further property destruction after discovering an illegal scam in their neighborhood.

The Marin County native explained their story on the r/Treelaw subreddit, which revealed that a group of tree cutters appeared every few months felling trees on people’s property without prior notice or consent. When contacted, they even lied about why they were cutting down the trees, claiming they were rotting when they were actually healthy.

“Yesterday they cut down a huge old oak tree on my neighbor’s property. This tree was high on his lawn and not near any power lines. They claimed the tree was rotten, but we have photographic evidence that it was not ” says the homeowner. explained. “When my neighbor came home, he was furious. It was the largest tree on his property and the main source of privacy for his entire house.”

This makes the scam more worrying for the employees claimed they were affiliated with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company and had the company name “Core Tree Cutters”, but no information could be found online to prove the company’s reputation or existence.

The homeowner sought advice from other Reddit users about how to stop the scammers from terrorizing their neighborhoods, and the commenters didn’t mince their words.

“This is fraud and theft on a massive scale!” one user wrote. “You stated that these thieves have committed numerous crimes such as burglary, vandalism and theft of property (trees) and yet you just want them to ‘not come back’?!? Just the wood from your neighbor’s tree provided them several thousand on dollars and no repercussions, they see your area as easy choices, and until they are arrested and prosecuted, they are right.”

“Don’t talk to the crew that shows up. You’ll just end up warning them,” another user said suggested. “Call the police and tell them there is a group of people in the neighborhood cutting down trees and stealing wood and that you talked to your neighbors and none of them have contracts to have trees removed and that you called PG&E and they have said they have no contracted crews in the area that perform easement clearing.”

In an updatethe original poster thanked the commenters for their advice and said they had confirmed to PG&E that no crews or contractors had been sent to their neighborhood in more than a year. PG&E opened an internal investigation into the matter, and the homeowner informed their neighbors of the illegal scam and said they would call the police the next time they see the crew now that they have proof of their shady scam. company.
