Mobile police get court order to identify 14-year-old wanted for boy’s murder

A 14-year-old boy is wanted by the Mobile Police in connection with a deadly shooting late last month that left a boy dead, authorities said Tuesday evening.

Miquael Jackson is wanted in connection with the Oct. 31 murder on Arcturus Lane, Mobile police said.

The murder victim was only publicly identified as a young man.

An Alabama state law passed in 2021 stipulates that public records such as “photographs, likeness and personally identifiable information” are included in law enforcement records of anyone who has juvenile suspects who have not been convicted – even if charged as adults – are not allowed to be published.

Mobile Police said that “due to the exigent circumstances in the attempt to locate a third person, we have received a court order allowing us to release the name and photo of this minor person to the media.

“This is a matter of public safety and we ask that you please share this information with your public,” a police statement said.

“Our homicide detectives have diligently investigated this case since day one and I am proud of their commitment to ensuring justice is served,” said Police Chief William Jackson. “While I commend their work in making these arrests, this should in no way overshadow the lives lost that night.

“This case is particularly difficult to handle as a young life was taken in such a violent act, and those responsible for the crime are minors,” the chief continued. “It is yet another reminder that our work is not yet finished. Parents, I urge you to talk to your children. Violence is never the answer, and I assure you that regardless of the age of those responsible for committing such acts, you will be arrested and charged accordingly.”

On Friday, two suspects – a 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy – were located and arrested.

Jackson remains at large.

Anyone found harboring the teenage suspect could face charges, Mobile police said.

Those with information on the boy’s whereabouts were asked to call Mobile Police at 251-208-7211. Tipsters can also submit information anonymously by texting 844-251-0644 or visiting http://mobilepd.org/crimetip.
