Delavan fatal apartment fire; 1 dead, others displaced

A man has died after a fire broke out in Delavan on Monday morning, November 11.

Delavan Fire Chief Tim O’Neill said it happened at an apartment building just after 9 a.m. Monday on Faryl Ave.

The male victim, approximately in his mid-30s, was located and crews performed CPR. However, he did not survive. The fire started in the man’s kitchen.

Eight units were damaged in the fire, forcing twelve people to flee. The American Red Cross was on site and helped five people, while the others were taken elsewhere.

O’Neill said the fire lasted about 10 minutes from arrival to extinguishment.

The fire is not considered criminal.

O’Neill noted that this is not the first fire in the building this year.
