Mike Tyson takes a ferocious approach during open training for the fight with Jake Paul

Mike Tyson rolled back the years with an aggressive approach in his open training for Friday’s fight Jake Paulto the delight of the fans present.

The former heavyweight champion, 58, will box YouTube star Paul, 27, at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, this week. The fight will stream live on Netflix in an unprecedented move.

And ahead of the controversial fight – Tyson’s first professional bout since 2005 – “Iron Mike” and Paul took to the ring at the Toyota Music Factory to run through some moves for the fans.

Many videos of Tyson hitting pads have gone viral in recent years, with viewers often noting that the American’s speed and power remain intact.

And those attributes were on display at times during Tuesday’s open practice, with Tyson stepping in most of his jabs and regularly backing his padman to the ropes to throw combinations.

However, the pair didn’t always seem to be on the same page, with Tyson occasionally appearing to throw different combinations than the ones that were called.

It could have been the volume of the music at Toyota Music Factory, but regardless, the fans in attendance seemed to appreciate Tyson’s efforts.

When then asked what he learned about himself during his training camp, Tyson said: “That I’m stronger than I thought I was, because when I agreed to this fight and started training, I thought, ‘what the f** * am I thinking about?’ But now that I have completed the process, the fight is the celebration.”

Later in the evening, Paul performed his own open workout before saying he felt “sharp, powerful, explosive.” He promised: “It’s going to be a short night for Mike.

“It’s not about how long you’ve been doing something, it’s about how well you do it. On Friday people will see me unboxing the person who has been doing it all his life. On Friday my dreams come true and my career begins (…) I will knock out Mike Tyson.”

The YouTube star went 10-1 (7 knockouts) as a professional boxer, scoring victories over numerous MMA fighters and lesser-known boxers.
